Looking after your tyres
-
How do I check my tyre size?
The best and most accurate way to check your tyre size is to look on the outside wall of your tyre for a 7 digit number. However, if you are not near the vehicle then please refer to your handbook, as the tyre size is commonly displayed there or simply enter your registration number into the site and we'll check for you.
-
How do I check my tyre wear?
Using a tyre depth gauge is the easiest way to check the wear on your tyre, or more modern tyres have their own markers built into the tyre, but make sure you don’t leave it too late to check!
-
What are the benefits of Nitrogen Inflation?
Nitrogen Inflation keeps your tyres inflated for longer and increases tyre life by up to 25% as well as reducing fuel consumption by up to 5%. It's mandatory in the airline industry and is even used in formula 1 racing cars!
-
Why is wheel balancing important?
Wheel balancing ensures that your suspension and tyres avoid premature wear as well as increasing the fuel economy of your vehicle, and is included with all new fitted tyres.
-
What is Wheel Alignment and do you offer this service?
Wheel alignment makes sure your tyres are all angled in the same direction, it avoids premature tyre wear, helps with fuel economy and keeps the safety and handling of your car in check. This requires specialist equipment that some of our fitters have on their vans. If you think your car might need its wheels aligned please give us a shout and we'll let you know if this service is offered in your location.
-
What's the difference between standard tyres and winter tyres?
Winter tyres perform best when the temperature falls below 7 degrees! They allow your car to grip the road a lot better and help to reduce your braking distance on those wet and windy winter nights! It's often recommended that winter tyres are put on your car in October and are changed back to standard tyres the following March.
Tyre law
-
What is the UK tyre tread law?
Minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm so any car tyre tread below that can incur the driver a penalty of £2,500 per tyre and 3 points on their license per tyre. It is often recommended that tyres are checked once every few weeks and should be changed at around 3mm tread depth to ensure there is always efficient grip.
-
What does the EU tyre label tell me?
The three EU tyre label categories allow consumers to make more informed decisions when purchasing tyres. They measure wet grip, fuel efficiency and noise emissions, so as a consumer you know how tyres perform in the rain, how fuel efficient the tyres are, and the external noise the tyres produce when in motion.
