Founded in 1889 by the Michelin brothers, André and Edouard, Michelin has now become synonymous with reliable, top quality tyres. And a big marshmallow man. Although we’re pretty sure André and Edouard didn’t actually look like that.

The company is known for its innovations, including the first radial tyre in the 50s, and the first ‘green’ tyre in the 90s. Modern innovations include the Michelin Active Wheel (more about that in an upcoming blog post) for battery or electric vehicles that improve handling, suspension and stability.

Michelin is big in Europe, with one third of drivers choosing Michelin over other brands. And Michelin tyres have made a name in every major international motorsport, including FI, WRC, Moto GP and Endurance.

The future for Michelin seems to focus on the environment and energy-efficiency, creating sustainable tyre manufacturing and reduced fuel consumption. According to Michelin, if all the cars in Europe were fitted with their ‘green’ energy-saving tyres, 3 billion litres of fuel would be saved each year!
