Red Bull Keeps Tyres and Brakes Hot
The Red Bull F1 team reveals their method for heating tyres and brakes before their drivers leave the pits – a simple but clever technique that they have been using since Belgium.
Pre-heated aluminium cylinders are placed inside the brake ducts to maintain racing speed temperature. These are then removed by mechanics before the car leaves the pits again. This ingenious solution works around the 2005 ban on other heating methods, such as heating the inside of the wheel rims and allows the Red Bull team to stay hot!
Sebastian Vettel, who recently won his second title at Suzuka, comments on the team’s determination to get every ounce of power out of their cars during this year’s races:
“It’s hard to imagine you know, we have two cars and two drivers only and we carry that weight on our shoulders every time we go on track. Sometimes we don’t treat the cars as good as we should, but we always try to get every single bit out of them every race weekend. But it’s phenomenal what’s happened – we set ourselves the target to win the Championship this year and so, to win it by Japan with four more races to go, is difficult to put into words – it’s as confusing as the first one. I never imagined I would win one Championship and so to win this second one is amazing.”
