Caravan Tyres
Just like car tyres, caravan tyres are the only part of the caravan which is in contact with the road, so your safety and manoeuvrability depend on that small footprint. Although the tyres may not be used as frequently, they still need to be maintained in good condition at all times, and at the correct tyre pressures.
The tyres your caravan was originally fitted with were decided in the same way as your car tyres – by a joint consultation between the vehicle manufacturer and the tyre manufacturers, so changing the tyre size or type should not be done lightly. It can have a dramatic effect on the handling of your caravan.
When your caravan is attached to your car, you should avoid sudden manoeuvres such as overtaking or changing lanes at the last minute. Instead you should try to anticipate the need for such manoeuvres in advance, to maintain the stability of your caravan.
If you are travelling abroad with your caravan, you should be aware that in some European countries it is actually illegal to use replacement tyres with a different size, load or speed rating from the original tyre the caravan manufacturer. This holds true for your car tyres too.
