Top Gear drives a Hi-Lux on water filled 4×4 tyres
Top Gear always manages to impress with an array of various stunts and super cars. One show that was on several months ago showed a Toyota Hi-Lux that was used to drive across a volcano. The obvious problem is that tyres driven across the hot rocks of a volcano would simply melt. Top Gear’s tyre fitting team came up with an usual idea for preventing the tyres from melting, the solution being vodka! Not something you would find on UK tyres. Top Gear used water to cool the big 4×4 tyres by filtering water down from big tanks onto the tyres. They also had to use vodka to make sure that the water did not freeze. The Eyjafjallajokull volcano caused havoc with air travel in 2010 with most airports across Europe grounded. This cost the Aviation industry millions of pounds, not to mention the millions of stranded tourists all over the world. Hopefully you were not stuck anywhere during the volcanic ash storm!
The Toyota Hi-Lux is a favoured vehicle of the Top Gear team. They have tried and failed several times to successfully break one. They set the vehicle on fire and then turned the key and it started! They then put the Hi-Lux on top of a building and blew up the building and it started! It had a caravan dropped on it and then strapped to the beach as the tide came in. After all this the Toyota still roared into life. Top Gear’s conclusion on the Hi-Lux was that it is virtually indestructible.
