A Street Is Left Feeling A Bit Deflated
A Dunedin street was left feeling the pinch after all the cars parked in the street had their car tyres vandalised. The whole street was hit with all the tyres of each vehicle attacked. One resident had his expensive 4×4 tyres punctured and he thought his insurance bill would be something in the region of $2,000 with his excess around $300. The residents were extremely disappointed saying how nice it was to live there normally.
The effect off this petty crime was far reaching as the local residents then could not go to work or even take their children to school. The other massive issue when the tyres are slashed in this way is vehicle mobility. Most cars either come with a spare tyre or a puncture repair kit. Neither of these two systems will get you out of trouble if all four tyres have been slashed. Therefore there is additional costs involved in tow trucks not to mention the lost time at work – all these costs add up.
The tyre experts had a busy day that day! After looking at the vehicles they said the tyres had been punctured with a long sharp spike of some description. Most of the tyres were also irreparable as the spike had been thrust right through the side wall of the tyre.
