Goodyear AMT tyres at Geneva
Goodyear’s Air Maintenance Technology (AMT) has been showcased at the Geneva Motor Show, promising the self-inflating tyres will have “immediate positive impact for drivers in terms of performance and for the environment through improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions and extended tyre life.”
AMT helps tyres to remain at the optimal inflation and pressure automatically, without needing for manual intervention. Jean-Claude Kihn, senior vice president at Goodyear claims that “consumers often overlook the importance of maintaining proper tyre pressure”, which can lead to lower fuel efficiency, over-wearing of your tyres and ultimately results in needing to replace your tyres more often.
Demonstrated for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show, AMT is the latest in a string of technologies developed in recent years to boost sustainability as well as ease of use for consumers. Jean Pierre Jeusette, general director of Goodyear’s Luxembourg Innovation Center explains: “These technologies [are] focused on performance, sustainability, the environment and convenience.”
Alongside AMT is Goodyear’s Electric Vehicle Tyre Technology, sponsored by the European Union to reduce tyre noise, and Radio Frequency Identification Technology, lifted from the racing circuit to increase the ‘intelligence’ of consumer tyres. Another of Goodyear’s innovations, the Spring Tyre, is an airless tyre, originally designed for lunar use!
