Sport Maxx RT replaces SP Sportmaxx TT
At the end of February, at the Ascari Race track in Spain, Dunlop announced the launch of the Sport Maxx Race and Sport Maxx RT car tyres desgined for the world’s fastest cars. You can expect the ‘race’ iteration to be fitted to models such as the Mercedes SLS and C63 AMG Black Series, Audi’s TT RS and R8, the Porsche 911 GT3 and the BMW M5. The RT is intended to be fitted as original equipment by manufacturers who are introducing 17 and 18 inch rims prior to 16 inch ones.
RT stands for ‘Racing technology’ and the Sport Maxx RT is designed to be a road tyre for driving enthusiasts, and will be replacing the SP Sport Maxx TT. Dunlop have used racing technology to develop the tyre, and these tyres are designed to deliver enhanced grip, increased adaptability for both wet and dry road surfaces, and high handling stability, particularly when cornering at high speeds. Sounds like a lot of fun!
As well as the ‘fun’ side of it’s skill set, these tyres feature a set of large central grooves which increase the volume of water flow and reduces aquaplaning, while the round footprint allows water to be forced out through lateral grooves helping the tyre grip the road properly. Braking performance has also been focussed on; a shorter braking distance, even at high speeds, is delivered by the addition of short-braking blocks set into the tyres’ tread pattern.
