Grand Prix – Mercedes Hoping Tyre Problems Solved
During the first two grands prix, Mercedes suffered problems with its car tyres, but following detailed analysis of the problems they are hopeful that they have been resolved in time for the Chinese Grand Prix. So far the Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher have only scored one measly point between them as their cars haven’t been as strong as their competitors.
In Australia the Mercedes team’s tyres suffered high degradation due to overheating, while in Malaysia it was a matter of not getting the car tyres into the right operating window. Since then the team has conducted some thorough research into their tyre usage during those two races, and decided on a plan of improvement. Shanghai will be the proving ground to see if they have solved the problems.
In both the previous races, Michael Schumacher’s qualifying positions in the second row were less than half a second behind the pole position, so his performance during the races themselves was doubly disappointing. Hopefully once they’ve got the tyre issues sorted out, they will prove themselves a real contender and this year’s Grand Prix will get even more exciting!
