Run Flat Tyres
Changing a tyre that has suffered from a puncture is not many people’s idea of fun. You’re by the side of the road, it’s probably cold, and knowing England, it may even be raining, but what choice do you have? Well, if you had fitted run flat tyres to your car, you needn’t have stopped driving at all!
Run flat tyres allow you to continue driving (for a short distance, not Land’s End to John O’Groats!) after suffering a puncture or flat tyre. Your car would need to be fitted with a tyre pressure sensor so that you would be aware your tyre had deflated, and could arrange to have a new tyre fitted at your earliest convenience. As well as keeping you on the road for longer, these tyres have the added advantage of giving you more boot space as you don’t need to carry a spare tyre with you.
The biggest disadvantage of run flat tyres is that they do cost more, so if you suffer from too many flats, you will find yourself seriously out of pocket. They also do feel different to drive on than standard tyres as the tyre sidewall is so stiff. It all depends what your priorities are – if boot space and staying on the road are important to you then run flat tyres are for you.
