Study Shows Majority Of Crashes Caused By Damaged Tyres
A study in South Africa has shown that the majority of car accidents have been caused by damaged or badly maintained car tyres. Regular readers of this blog will know how important it is to maintain your tyres because they are the only part of the vehicle in contact with the road – if they don’t perform as they should, nothing else can keep you going where you want to go!
Badly maintained tyres can have a negative effect on traction, handling, steering, stability and braking. So basically all aspects of keeping you on the road and heading where you intend to go. Tyre pressure is the most important thing to check regularly, and before any long or heavily loaded journey, as that can be the first step towards damaged tyres.
No matter which country the study was carried out in, the results are valid for everywhere that people drive; your tyres are what keeps your car on the road.
