Tyres Are Still An Issue For Ferrari Team
Ferrari were already expecting problems in Shanghai and Sakhir, particularly as the Bahrain track has characteristics that could almost have been designed to highlight all the areas where Ferrari’s car has difficulties such as traction and top speed. Pirelli will be supplying the same tyres in Sakhir as they did in both Shanghai and Melbourne, so Ferrari are hoping they will have improved their ability to analyse the behaviour of both the soft and medium car tyres.
The team is determined to bring home a better result in the Bahrain race so that they can end the 2012 F1 season’s opening run of races on a high. The tyres are central to their hopes, and they will be striving to get the most out of the tyres in the qualifiers as well as the race. They are realising that understanding exactly what they can get out of the tyres, and when has been key so far this season, so predicting the behaviour of the tyres is paramount.
Despite this difficult start, Fernando Alonso is still third in the Drivers’ Championship, only eight points away from the top position. Two years ago Alonso was in the same position, with the same number of points (37), and he ended the season by leading the championship heading into the final race, so Ferrari really do have everything to play for!
