Latest Which? Tyre Awards
In the April edition of Which? magazine they ranked 26 models of summer tyres in the 14″ and 16″ sizes. The car tyres were ranked out of five for both dry and wet braking and handling, wet grip on straights and bends, noise, fuel consumption and wear. The impact of the forthcoming energy labels was also discussed in the article, and shockingly, 9 out of 10 people asked were unaware of the changes in tyre labelling. However, more promisingly, once it had been explained to them, 7 out of 10 people said it would influence their tyre buying decisions.
All the tyres performed fairly well in the tests, so no “don’t buy” ratings were handed out, while the “best buy” was given to three 14″ tyres: Continental tyres EcoContact5, Michelin’s Energy Saver and Pirelli’s Cinturato P1. In the 16″ category, top marks were given to Continental’s PremiumContact 5, Dunlop’s SP Sport FastResponse and Goodyear’s OptiGrip.
