Possibly the World’s Most Expensive Tyres?
Buying car tyres is probably not high on most people’s list of things they like to do. We know they’re important, and they’re definitely necessary if you want your car to move (and stop when you want it to!), but there are more exciting things to spend your money on! However, in the grand scheme of things, your car tyres probably aren’t that expensive. Don’t agree? Think you had to pay out a huge sum last time you replaced all four corners? Well, if you drive a Bugatti Veyron, you are justified in feeling that way…if you don’t, this information will help you feel like your tyres cost practically nothing!
To replace all four high performance tyres on a Bugatti Veyron, would cost you…drumroll please…£23,500 (according to the Autocar website)! Staggering, isn’t it?! The tyres in question are Michelin Pilot Sport Pax System 245-690 R520 A (on the front) and 365-710 R 540 A (on the rear). These tyres have to stand up to a lot of abuse; the Bugatti Veyron is capable of travelling at 253 mph which is more than 100 mph faster than the landing speed of Concorde. It’s amazing the car manages to stay on the road at all, or that they found any tyre to stand up to that much friction.
Unfortunately, the expense doesn’t end there. Every fourth tyre change, the wheels need to be stress tested for cracks, and if they find you need to replace the 20″ forged rims, that’ll be another £7050 each. Proof that buying a car is only step one – maintaining it is the expensive part!
