Recycling Tyres…Into Sculptures?
Tyres, whether they are lorries, vans, motorbikes, tractors or car tyres, all need to be completely reused or recycled. Tyres are not allowed into landfill at all, so whether they are reused as part-worn tyres, cut into pieces to make sandals or garden trugs, or recycled by being ground down into a completely different product for use in creating sports and playground surfaces, tyres are the only product that is currently not thrown away.
Some people, however, have come up with different uses for old tyres. Some artists even use old tyres as a medium with which to create sculptures. That might sound like it would result in something a bit awkward, but actually, they can create some amazing things. One Korean artist – Ji Yong Ho – uses them to create animal sculptures as he feels that the flexibility of the tyres allows him to capture the spirit of the animals. Take a look at some of his sculptures here.
