Two Thirds of Drivers Avoiding Driving!
At first sight, the statistic that almost two thirds of British drivers are choosing to leave their cars behind in favour of alternative transport is fairly surprising. Looking a little deeper, however, and it is easy to see that they are doing this in an attempt to save their pennies. The current economic climate has encouraged people to be a little more frugal, so rather than driving to the corner shop, people are now choosing to walk. Better for them, and better for the environment!
It doesn’t take a genius to see that this frugality is almost entirely down to the price of fuel. This is leading drivers to avoid taking their cars on trips that they can make in another way (whether walking or taking public transport), and avoid non-essential travel altogether. People are being forced to prioritise their car journeys, and generally speaking, most people prioritise commuting and grocery buying journeys.
Despite this car avoidance, the vast majority of drivers are opposed to getting rid of their vehicle. As well as skipping unnecessary car trips, money can be saved by shopping around for their car tyres, and choosing fuel efficient models to ensure the fuel you can afford gets you as far as possible.
