Nurburgring Record Set By Electric Audi!
The soon to be launched electric Audi R8 e-tron has recently set the world record for a production vehicle featuring an electric drive system on the Nordschliefe at the Nurburgring. Widely considered the toughest test track in the world, the Nurburgring Nordschleife is an exceptionally challenging 12.92 mile track. The Audi R8 e-tron was driven by a racing driver called Markus Winkelhock in a record-breaking 8:09.099 minutes.
The new Audi will be going into production towards the end of the year, but the drive system is identical to the car that was driven around the test track in record-breaking time. Featuring a combined output of 280 kW and 820 Nm from the electric motors, the car distributes over 4,900 Nm to the rear wheels almost from a standing start.
As far as the important stats go:
- zero to 62mph is in 4.6 seconds.
- the top speed is limited to 124 mph, although it was approved to go up to 155 mph for the all important lap at the Nurburgring.
- the rechargeable lithium-ion battery can store 49 KWh of energy which is enough to travel approximately 133 miles.
- We don’t know which car tyres were fitted to the car, but perhaps it was one of the new range of tyres that are being designed specifically for electric cars.
