Continental have been working on many different components designed for electric vehicles, in particular the Conti.eContact tyres. In order to demonstrate these tyres Continental have actually converted a bog standard Renault Megane to a prototype electric vehicle incorporating around 40 of Continental’s own components.

The Conti.eContact tyres deliver 30% less rolling resistance which means your electric vehicle will be able to travel further with each charge! The unusual diameter and the aerodynamic rims are specifically designed with that in mind. Smooth sidewalls reduce energy loss through wind resistance, while the deformation of the tyre actually decreases as the tyre approaches the contact parch which dramatically reduces rolling resistance.

The tread design was also designed to be as efficient as possible. It features four longitudinal grooves, stiff tread ribs, a multitude of sipes and no transverse corrugations. All of which are trimmed to reduce both rolling resistance and tyre noise. This has all been achieved without sacrificing either handling or wet braking, and the tyre is even lighter than earlier designs. What more could you want for your electric vehicle?!
