Enforcing the EU Tyre Labelling Laws
In November 2012, the EU Tyre Labelling will become mandatory, but are adequate plans in place about how to enforce the new rules? There is no point having a labelling system without a system in place to ensure that everyone is grading their tyres to a standardised level, and that all tyres are in fact labelled.
The problem is that currently, no one knows who will be enforcing this law. While it is the responsibility of both the European and the respective national legislatures to organise the enforcement, at the moment they are saying that it is too early to know who the enforcement bodies will be and how their procedures will work or what the penalties will be.
This makes it very concerning for all the tyre manufacturers and retailers who have put a lot of time and money into preparing for these new tyre labels, as the system will be undermined without a proper enforcement method in place.
