Have We Convinced You About Winter Tyres Yet?
Many drivers in the United Kingdom do not yet understand the necessity of winter tyres – some have never even heard of them, while others mistakenly assume they are for driving on snow or icy roads. Here in our little corner of the internet, we try to tell people why winter tyres are beneficial, so hopefully we have already converted a few of you!
Winter tyres are useful at any time when the temperature is below 7 degrees Celsius. Below that temperature, stopping distances will be shorter and you will have much more grip. Winter tyres do not harden at lower temperatures, unlike standard car tyres, which enables them to maintain their flexibility and grip, giving you a higher level of safety.
That doesn’t mean that you can’t use them in the snow or ice – in fact they will still provide you with grip far beyond what a summer tyre could achieve on the same surfaces. Drivers are six times more likely to have an accident in Winter than at any other time of the year, which makes it all the more surprising that they don’t realise they can improve their safety simply by fitting season appropriate tyres. In the United Kingdom, this would mean fitting winter tyres to your car between October and April. If you have to choose between summer or winter tyres for all year round use, winter tyres would keep you safer.
