Some Tyre Tips To Prepare For Winter
As the weather starts to get colder, there are a few car maintenance jobs that every motorist should be doing – checking their fluid levels, topping up screen wash, and of course, checking their car tyres. Here is a brief reminder of what you should be checking for:
- Check for any tyre wear both along the treads and the sidewalls. Any bulging or cuts in the tyre mean that it needs to be replaced quickly.
- Replace old valve caps as they can leak, affecting your tyre pressures.
- Check tyre pressures and make sure they are at the right level according to your vehicle manufacturer’s guidelines
- Check tyre treads for wear. Anything less than 3mm should be replaced as a matter of urgency as even in fine weather, that is the point at which performance drops off a cliff.
- Fit winter tyres! If you are replacing your tyres then consider replacing them with winter tyres for improved safety. And if your tyres don’t need replacing, why not switch them to winter tyres and save your standard tyres for next spring/summer?
