The New 62 Plate Vehicles Are On Their Way
One of the two biggest months for car dealerships is here, and I expect sales teams across the country are rushed off their feet. September accounts for almost a fifth of the year’s total car sales, only behind March. A good strong month for car sales has wider implications for the economy as a whole as well as the motor industry specifically, especially as the more cars that are sold, the more car services and repairs will be needed, and of course, more tyres fitted!
It is expected that around 330,000 new cars will be registered this month, with around £4.95 billion to be spent on them. The technology behind those cars is changing too – there are now over 300 fuel-efficient car models jam-packed with technology for consumers to choose from. Performance is improving in all areas – fuel efficiency, safety, and comfort. The average CO2 emissions of a new car are now 138g/km, while the official miles per gallon figures for the new models are frequently higher than 50mpg.
The most popular size of car so far this year is the supermini with a third of the market, but dual purpose vehicles are experiencing the most growth in terms of their market share. Cars using alternative fuels are also increasing in popularity, particularly now that more manufacturers are bringing out hybrid, electric or biofuel models than previously.
