TyreSafe Film Aims To Reduce Fleet Costs For Businesses
TyreSafe has launched a short film for businesses detailing how to lower their fuel bills as well as increase driver safety, simply by maintaining the tyres on their fleet vehicles properly. According to estimates, over a third of the cars on our roads are driving on dangerously under-inflated tyres, while over a million new cars are registered every year by fleets. Clearly this has a massive impact on safety, and TyreSafe is hoping to improve this by selling the idea to businesses as a money saving opportunity.
The fuel efficiency of car tyres is reduced by up to 3% when they are under-inflated by as little as 20%. While that may not seem much of a concern for the average household, when you are talking about a fleet of cars driving all over the country it can soon add up.
Handling is also negatively affected by low tyre pressures. In fact, a difference of as little as 6 psi can make a dramatic difference, and this is where the safety aspect comes in. Last year there were over 1200 casualties from accidents caused by illegal, defective or under-inflated tyres. As always, we would recommend that everyone checks their tyres at least once a month, and before any long journeys. And that means everyone, whether you own the car or it is a company car. The film can be seen from TyreSafe’s website.
