Dakar Rally and 4×4 Tyres
The Dakar Rally has been growing in popularity every year since it started back in the late seventies. Not bad considering it was started by a guy that got lost on his motorbike! Thierry Sabine was racing in the Abidjan-Nice rally through Libya when he got lost. However, he fell in love with the terrain and landscape so much that he returned and planned a route which finished at Dakar. This rally is one of the toughest rallies in the world; most of vehicles are modified off-roaders with extreme 4×4 tyres.
Lots of vehicles compete against each other in the Dakar Rally. From motorbikes to converted lorries and everything in between. The Dakar Rally 2012 promises to be an exciting race, with updates streaming on the Internet. Those participating in the race are required to pay a minimum entry fee of $1,500, and in addition to this they will have to cover the cost of transporting the vehicle there. There is also fuel costs for the rally and the obvious cost of the vehicle and any spare parts needed such as car tyres. This means that the rally is not for the faint hearted or people with shallow pockets!
